About the event
In recognition of Art's Advocacy Day at the Capitol, Waterfront Gallery will be hosting an OPEN HOUSE EVENT for the closing of it's current exhibit "I BELIEVE II: ARTS AND INCARCERATION" which features artwork by inmates of the South Dakota State Men's Penitentiary and the Mike Durfee State Prison. This exhibit emphasis the necessity for artistic expression, both visual and performance based, within our prison system.
The goal of this project was to impact the mental and physical well-being of the inmates as they explored their sense of identity and purpose beyond their current incarcerated status.
This project was created through Creative Care, LLC, with funding provided by a Program Grant from the SD Arts Council, with state funds through the Department of Tourism, and with financial support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
